CLARK CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY

The Birmingham city manager Lee Clark has said that he is the one responsible for the 3-2 defeat suffered at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. Birmingham city were expected to get the better of Sheffield Wednesday in the second match of the season, but the newly promoted club stunned the Midlanders by recording a 3-2 victory.

After the match, the manager has admitted that the defeat was entirely his fault after he has made some mistakes with the tactics that allowed Sheffield Wednesday to take advantage of the weaknesses within the Birmingham city squad.

Birmingham city were coming on the back of the 1-1 draw with Charlton on the opening day of the season. They were hoping to get three points that would finally see them start of the Championship season. However, this defeat means that the club will have to wait for the match against Watford this weekend in order to get the points. Birmingham city were achieved under the managerial reign of Chris Hughton last season, but they are not expected to challenge for promotion spot this time around. The huge financial problems suffered by the club in the last few seasons has limited their ability to compete in the transfer window.

“We gave poor goals away and gave ourselves too much to do. I take full responsibility for our formation. We knew their crowd would be behind them so I went with three midfielders to dictate the midfield. Hopefully to quieten them down but it gave them momentum. When goalkeepers make mistakes, nine out of 10 times it will go in the back of the net. He will have a long career, it is how he will bounce back,” said Lee Clark after the match in which the goalkeeper Jack Butland made an error.

MORE SIGNINGS NEEDED

Birmingham city manager Lee Clark has said that he would like to make another signing in the week in order to complete the squad – idealy a Wayne Rooney type striker. Birmingham city are looking to get promotion into the Premier league despite their ongoing financial troubles.

Manager Lee Clark has made some significant changes to the squad in the summer and he has said that the web is not over yet. He has said that he is anticipating one more signing to be added to the squad before the end of the transfer window. The Championship season starts very shortly and Birmingham city want to build on the success they achieved last season.

Birmingham city managed to make it into the play-offs position under the guidance of former manager Chris Hughton, despite having a lot of financial troubles.

Even though some of the crucial members of the squad have been sold, the arrival of some important players has boosted the squad strength. In addition to this, Birmingham city are looking at the signing of James Vaughan, while they have also been linked with the Chelsea defender Ben Gordon. Lee Clark said a few weeks ago that the club are currently in talks with the European championship over a possible loan move for Ben Gordon.

“Before the end of the week I’m hoping to do a bit more business. And then I think I’d be done, unless we have to go into the market to replace anyone who goes out of the club,” said the Birmingham city manager. Birmingham recently revealed the signing of the former Manchester United striker Ravel Morrison on a season long loan deal from his current club West Ham. The striker is regarded to be one of the best young talents in English football right now. His arrival will certainly bolster the attacking options at the club.

CLARK RULES OUT TRANSFERS

Birmingham city manager Lee Clark has said that he does not expect to see any departures from the club in the summer. There have been rumours that the financial situation of the club means that Birmingham will have to sell a number of high profile players like Curtis Davies after failing to secure promotion last season.

Curtis Davies has been linked with a £ 5 million move to Norwich city in order to link up with the former Birmingham city manager Chris Hughton, who recently took over at Norwich. It is expected that Hughton will be coming with a £ 5 million bid for the former Aston Villa defender to keep him at Midlands.

However, the new Birmingham city manager Lee Clark has said that he does not expect to sell any of the top players because the club are not in a bad financial situation. Yet, Clark has admitted that he expects Curtis Davies to leave the club in the summer because that is the wish of the player. Clark has said that the interest of the owners to keep the best players at the club is quite clearly evident from the way they rejected the £ 6 million offer for Jack Butland.

“I haven’t been told by the board that Curtis has to go. Curtis hasn’t made a point to me he wants to go. I have had a face-to-face meeting with Curtis, he was very positive in the meeting, he has been very receptive to the training. As I have said all along, we are going to get rumours because there are good players here. I haven’t got a problem with that. All I can say is I haven’t been told by the board that, if a bid comes in, we have to accept it,” said Clark.

Walcott plays Super-Sub Role

England and Sweden produced the game of the tournament so far as Theo Walcott turned the match on its head and helped Roy Hodgson’s side seal a 3-2 win

After a delayed kick off due to the late finish in Donetsk, England’s Scott Parker had the best chance to open the scoring on nine minutes with a long range effort that tested Isaksson in the Sweden goal. Within minutes, Sweden replied with a shot from distance of their own but Seb Larsson’s hopeful attempt was comfortably gathered by Joe Hart.

Both sides were looking threatening up front and while Zlatan Ibrahimovic also threatened from distance, Danny Welbeck missed a great chance with a glancing header from a James Milner cross that skidded wide.

After 24 minutes, England’s Euro 2012 campaign sparked into life as they took the lead when a pinpoint cross from Steven Gerrard was met powerfully by Andy Carroll and his downward header gave Isaakson no chance. Ashley Young then had a great opportunity to double the lead when Ashley Cole released the winger on the left. With options in the middle, Young chose to shoot and dragged his shot into the side netting.

The Swedes came to life late on in the first period as Ibrahimovic and Elmander eased into the game more but the English defended well in numbers to maintain their lead at half time.

It had been an entertaining first half but few would have anticipated the drama to follow in the second period. Sweden came out knowing that they needed to score in order to stay in the competition and they started brightly in their quest to do just that.

Their strong start to the second half was duly rewarded on 49 minutes when a free kick on the edge of the England box was blocked by the wall but the rebound fell kindly to veteran Olof Mellberg whose scrambled effort crept home via England’s Glen Johnson.

Worse was to follow as a Larsson free kick flew deep into the England box and with nobody picking up Mellberg, the former Aston Villa man easily made it 2-1.

Roy Hodgson clearly had to change things around and the introduction of Theo Walcott turned out to be an inspired decision. Within four minutes of the Arsenal winger coming onto the pitch a corner was cleared to his feet and his dipping drive from the edge of the box inexplicably flew past Isaksson.

With the scores now level, both sides had chances to steal the winner but it was a piece of brilliance from Walcott once again that sealed the game. Jinking to the by-line on 78 minutes his neat cross was flicked in brilliantly by Danny Welbeck to make it 3-2 to England and send the Swedes home early.

Once again, both teams could have added to the scoring but England had the better opportunity as Gerrard forced a brilliant point blank save from the Swedish keeper before the whistle finally blew.

LONG TERM VISION

Birmingham city have said that manager Chris Hughton is set for a long-term vision at the club and will not be joining other clubs or entertaining their interest. West Brom have been linked with a move for the Birmingham city manager, who has done a quite remarkable job at the St Andrews.

He has been able to get the club, which has been struggling with a lot of financial problems, into the play-offs. Even though they did not make into the play-offs final, many argue that it was a great season for Birmingham city in the first place. West Brom are currently without a manager after Roy Hodgson left his post for the England managerial position.

Birmingham city lost their manager Alex McLeish in the previous summer to arch rivals Aston Villa. Now, history seems to be repeating after another archrival has approached their current manager Chris Hughton, who also did a remarkable job with Newcastle in the Premier league.

According to the Tottenham News website, the club believed that the healthy working relationship that they enjoy with both Aston Villa and West Brom could be spoilt as a result of the approaches made by either clubs in recent seasons for their manager. Meanwhile, West Brom are also hopeful that goalkeeper Ben Foster will be looking to make the switch between the arch rivals this summer on a permanent deal.

“There has been no contact, as yet. The club are continuing to work with Chris Hughton in planning for next season and any approach would not be welcome,” said a reliable source from the board at Birmingham. Birmingham city lost 3-2 to Blackpool in the play-off semi-final. Blackpool went to the play-offs final against West Ham, but could not repeat their heroics of two years ago. Chris Hughton has not yet commented on the interest from West Brom.

HUGHTON WANTS BETTER

Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton has said that the club should do a lot better in the second leg if they are to make it into the final of the play-offs.

Birmingham City lost the first leg of the play-off semi-final against Blackpool 1-0.

They will be having the second leg at home, which will be a massive advantage according to manager Chris Hughton. It has been a tough year for Birmingham City, but they have managed to qualify for the play-offs position. It will be a massive achievement for Chris Hughton is he was to get his financially threatened the club to the Premier league.

However, they now face an uphill task in order to set up a final date against West Ham, who look now the favourites to beat Cardiff City in the other semi-final. Hughton said after the match that the club was extremely disappointed with the result, but he expected a big improvement in the second leg at St Andrews. Hughton said that one of the reasons Blackpool were able to get the advantage in the first leg was the failure of his players to use the ball well. This is the first defeat Birmingham City have suffered since March 20.

“We didn’t use the ball well enough… we’ll certainly have to improve, but we’re still right in it. We always knew it was going to be a difficult game. Blackpool get a lot of possession in the middle of the park and all you can do is try and restrict them to minimal chances, which we did. But we didn’t use the ball well enough in our general play, or working on the counter,” Hughton said after the match. The second leg encounter between the two clubs will be at the St Andrews on May 10.

HUGHTON – WE DESERVE CHANCE

Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton has said that the players at the club deserve a chance to be in the play-offs given the way they have performed this season.

Birmingham have been hit by a number of financial problems this season mainly due to their Hong Kong owner.

The very existence of the club has been in doubt, but Chris Hughton has managed to prevent the uncertainties on the financial front to transfer to the football front. As a result, the players have been able to perform exceptionally well in the Championship this season. Birmingham are currently in a position where they could compete in the play-offs this season.

With only one match in the regular season remaining, Birmingham are currently fifth in the Championship table.

Their place in the play-offs position has not been guaranteed yet, as they could still fall below the sixth position. They are in a race with clubs like Cardiff city and Middlesbrough to finish in the top six of the Championship. Blackpool have recently overtaken Birmingham to the fourth position, which means that they are unlikely to face West Ham in the play-offs. West Ham were one of the favourites to get automatic promotion, but they were let down by the late dip in form. Birmingham will not want to face West Ham in the play-offs.

“We have had so many games this season nobody was quite sure what to expect. Would we have settled for a play-off position at the start of the season? Yes, we would have done. There were plenty of comings and goings, we’ve brought in some really good players to this football club and add to that we’ve had a lot of players who have had to play a lot of games,” said Hughton ahead of their only remaining match against leaders Reading.

HUGHTON PLAYS DOWN CHANCES

Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton has said that he had the opportunity to finish in the play-offs this season, but are facing a tough run of fixtures.

Birmingham City have the chance to secure their place in the play-off positions, which will guarantee them the opportunity to fight for a place in the Premier league next season.

However, they will be facing the likes of West Ham in the remaining matches, and Chris Hughton considers that Birmingham City do have a tough fixture list in the final few matches of the season. Birmingham City now need a point from their remaining two matches in order to secure their play-off position. The latest football odds make them firm favourites to qualify.

Even though it is highly unlikely that they will be able to throw away such a good position, Chris Hughton has warned his players against complacency.

Birmingham City went into the match against Ipswich town without a number of first-team players, but were unable to get a credible draw against the side from Portman road. They have also lost Steven Caldwell to injury in the first half, which only complicated matters for Chris Hughton. They now trail West Ham by eight points with only two matches remaining.

They will be facing Barnsley in the next match followed by leaders Reading on the final day of the Championship season.

“We are close, but we have got to play two very, very tough games,” said Hughton. “They don’t come as tough as Brighton away – irrespective of their recent form – and Reading at home. But I am desperate for this group of boys to get over the line. They have been excellent all season. They deserve it, for the amount of games they’ve played and the spirit they’ve shown,” Hughton said after the 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.

HUGHTON: NO SHAME

Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton has said that there is certainly no shame in losing to a club of the stature of Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Birmingham City did not manage to get into the quarter-final stage after they were knocked out by Chelsea in the fifth round.

Chris Hughton, however, was extremely proud of his players, who had worked extremely hard to bring Chelsea to the state of an FA Cup replay at the St Andrews. Chelsea were probably helped by the fact that they had sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas and had appointed Roberto di Matteo. The new manager syndrome worked in favour of Chelsea, as goals from Mata and Raul Meireles helped them to a 2-0 win.

Birmingham City were extremely confident of getting a result going into the match. They also looked like they would be a match for their Premier league opponents in every department of the pitch. Chelsea were coming into the match on a very poor run of form, which had seen manager Andre Villas-Boas lose this job. Andre Villas-Boas was sacked after the 1-0 defeat against West Brom during the weekend. Hence, Chelsea were not coming into the match with great confidence, but the arrival of a new manager did its trick.

“When you consider the amount of games we’ve had, the quality we’re up against, we just needed to stay in the game longer in the second-half. And then you hope to get to the stage where they become a little bit anxious. And what you’re able to do then is finish strong, which we did. “We had the opportunity with Jordon Mutch late on. But if that’s at 1-0, you are right back in it,” said Blues manager Chris Hughton. Birmingham City will focus their attention on the Championship.

KING BANNED FROM DRIVING

English First Division club side Birmingham City Football Club striker Marlon King has been banned from driving indefinitely after he was caught speeding at 130 miles per hour in his Mercedes.

The 31 year old former Leeds United striker was caught by cops as he was speeding along the Midlands Highway at double the speed limit permissible for that region.

The temperamental striker was disqualified for 56 days after he was found guilty of speeding charges and not only that, he has also been fined £ 1,600 in the case at the Hinckley Magistrates Court.

Although King did not show up for the trial, the judge at the Hinckley Magistrates Court passed the verdict in his absence and the player will be officially notified once the paperwork is done.

The offence that took place on the morning of 5th August, 2011 sees the Birmingham City Football Club striker driving his Mercedes at speeds varying between 103 and 130 miles per hour for a 4 mile stretch along the M69 Motorway, situated in Huncote in the heart of Leicestershire.

This is, however, not the first time that Marlon King has found himself in trouble with the law and he has as many as 14 convictions excluding this recent one already in his name. After his switch to St. Andrew’s at the start of the season, many people believed that a fresh start will help him get straight a little bit but that has not happened, yet. Thankfully he HAS managed to do the right things on the field, helping Birmingham to rise up the table, and become a top tip of some of the best football betting websites.

King has been somewhat of a journeyman striker throughout his career, having played for big name clubs such as Leeds United, Hull City, Watford and Nottingham Forest before making the move to Birmingham City Football Club at the start of the season. Although he has not the best of seasons with The Blues, a change of lifestyle could still help him prolong his career.
